“Prayers For You” Quilts

“In times of trouble people tend to focus inward and think that no one cares. Our mission in “Prayers for You” is to let people know that others Do care and that most of all, God cares. Our network of people provide materials and help and prayer to make quilts that convey the message that no situation is beyond God’s grasp. God rains on the just and the unjust and loves us all.”
In April of 2001 a ministry began at TCF – the task of making quilts and presenting them to people with special needs or who are in difficult circumstances. The recipients may include foster children, those ill or housebound, fire victims, transplant patients, or those facing personal crisis. We try to meet the needs of people in our local community.
The ministry is called “Prayers for You” Quilts. The idea behind these prayer quilts is simple. A heavy thread is used to take stitches through the quilt layers, and the ends are left free to be tied with a square knot. As each knot is tied, a silent prayer is said for someone in special need, who then receives the finished quilt. The recipient will be told that each knot represents a prayer that has been said for them.
Our main purpose is not to distribute a quilt but to promote prayer for others through the use of quilts.
In Old Testament stories, stones of remembrance were placed as altars when God wanted His people to remember milestones of provision. Today, instead of building stone altars to remember how God meets all needs, God sometimes whispers to some of us, “Make a quilt.”
