Beliefs...
The Lutheran theologian Peter Meiderlin (known as Rupertus
Meldenius) said:
|
"In essentials unity, In doubtful things liberty,
But in all things love." |
We
like what Meiderline said. It simply means that in regards
to the essential doctrines of the Christian faith (e.g. the
Deity of Christ) we are unified. Concerning topics that
are controversial (e.g. is the creation account of Genesis 1
literal or symbolic), we have the freedom to disagree.
However, in all things we demonstrate love.
This does not mean that we believe having a clear declaration of
our beliefs isn't important. Historically, believers of
every age have valued creeds. TCF desires to have
orthodoxy ("right doctrine"), orthopathos ("right emotions"),
and orthopraxis ("right behavior"). Why? Because the
way we think affects the way we feel which affects the way we
act.
Guiding our values,
purposes and
statement
of faith is
our mission.
Our mission keeps us focused on what is important. When we
dream about what we want to accomplish as a community,
our
mission is what comes to mind.
